Training Program - Eastern Cape Project

Training, Skills Development and Community Certification

A key objective of the Eastern Cape project was not only to deliver a durable road outcome, but also to create meaningful skills development opportunities for the local community.

The Team

Throughout the construction process, local workers received practical training in the Polypave Pavement Stabilisation System, including project set-out procedures, grid-based cement distribution techniques, quality control requirements, material incorporation and compaction processes. The training was delivered on-site under the supervision of experienced Polypave personnel, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience in modern pavement construction methods.

The manual grid-based cement spreading system proved particularly effective, enabling local labour teams to accurately achieve specified application rates while developing valuable construction skills that can be applied to future infrastructure projects within their communities.

Receiving a Certificate of Training Completion

Upon successful completion of the project, participants were awarded Polypave Construction Training Certificates, recognising their competency and involvement in the construction of South Africa’s first Polypave road project. The certification program forms part of Polypave’s commitment to knowledge transfer, local capacity building and sustainable community development.

The success of this training initiative demonstrated how infrastructure projects can simultaneously deliver improved road networks, local employment opportunities and practical workforce development outcomes. This model is expected to form an important component of future Polypave projects throughout Africa and other developing regions.
