Eastern Cape Project - South Africa

Completed Polypave Treated Pavement

South Africa - 2.3 klm road completed in 7 working days

The Eastern Cape Project demonstrated sustainable infrastructure, local employment and rapid construction.

Polypave International is proud to announce the successful completion of the first road in South Africa constructed using Polypave Pavement Stabilisation Technology. The project utilised existing in-situ roadway materials, eliminating the need for significant quantities of imported quarry products.

Manual grid set out for cement spreading

Following preparation of road formation, cement was manually spread at controlled rates before the addition of Polypave liquid polymer emulsion through the water cart - stabilisation combination. The compactive effort was then applied, all in accordance with the Polypave Construction Training manual. One of the most successful aspects of the project was the implementation of a manual grid-based cement spreading system.

Rather than relying solely on specialised mechanical spreaders, local workers accurately distributed cement across pre-marked grid sections to ensure the correct application rate was achieved throughout the project.

The system delivered excellent quality control while creating valuable employment and training opportunities for local residents.

This successful Polypave Project has generated significance enquires across the broader Africa continent, as well as South African focus.
